Leading Travel Technology Consultants, Equinus, take a Squiz at our open source cms solutions

We've recently had a review of Squiz done by leading travel technology consultancy Equinus. The review, produced to coincide with the Eyefortravel show, is a great summary of who we are and how we help travel companies make money online. You can check out the review here (pdf).

Our work with the travel sector is not our only focus of course. At Squiz we work with industries that have substantial content management needs, including publishing, education and associations.

Why? Well MySource Matrix, our open source content management system (cms), is able to handle hundreds of thousands of pages of dynamic content, users, rich media, and more, plus at Squiz we're experts at integrating with 3rd party systems to create sophisticated web portals. We live and breathe content management, and we combine this with our clients' industry knowledge and create the best web presence possible.

Of course, industry experience is always relevant, which is why our work with open source technology in the travel industry has been summarised by Equinus. And off the back of this I've decided to list a few of the key elements which prove to be the building blocks of a great travel website:

  • Dynamic content presentation: Your site users are always looking for something in particular, and in travel its about finding the right holiday/hotel/special offer that suits their plans. We help to present products to users easily, whether by location, price or product type (weekend in Paris anyone?)
  • Robust system search: Search is always key, and being able to sort and segment search results to match your users requirements is crucial
  • Integration integration integration: We've worked with a number of travel clients to integrate their backend systems - from booking engines, to product databases and pricing databases. Its a fundamental part of the way the web is going. And if you have staff working well with existing systems don't reinvent the wheel, make the most of the resources you've got and web enable them!
  • Different user group: Log-ins to specialised content is vital for many travel operators, as they promote deals to agents which needs to be stored behind secure areas. Management of those users and their content is key to a successful busiiness.
  • Search Engine Optimisation: You know your site needs rank highly on search engines, it is a fundamental way people use the web today. MySource Matrix is particularly friendly to google, yahoo and even MSN - check out our white paper on the topic.
  • Cost reduction: We love open source because of the stong community element to the software, and the innovation this brings. Now to be fair, our clients love that too, but they also love the lack of licensing fees and - especially in todays tighteniing world.
  • Non technical administration: Your technical resources shouldn't be uploading content, and your comms team need to get that new form live, yesterday. Web content management systems like MySource Matrix are all about giving control over content to the people that matter, without a need for a degree in rocket science!

I'm sure whether you work in travel or not, you recognise the points above as key requirements in your online business model. Let us know if we've missed anything! Or if you know any good hotels in Paris...
